What / Who Is is a free service where you are able to register your work(and upload creations) i.e. blogs, images, videos etc. that generates a MCN code. Like CBZEG-7QF41-MY14Z. The site claims it automatically scan the Internet on a regular basis to see if your creation is copied.

But according to the U.S. Copyright law your work is under copyright protection the moment it is made and fixed in a tangible form it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. In other words, is unnecessary. The very worst thing isPeople give their creations away to Do you know to whom you give your creation to? No? I can already see you scratching your head.

“People who upload inventions and creations to similar websites transfer title to the website owner(s)”

One thing that the website in question is good at, is hiding contact details. Don’t you think that’s strange? It would be very nice to whom you entrust your rights and creation. And what if you have a lawsuit? You will knock against the wall, not against the door. Already 899,069 entrust their work to an anonymous party, shocking isn’t?

How Do I Copyright Protect My Work?

Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is made, when created store your evidence you created it somewhere safe. When i upload a video i screen capture(video) and create a print screen of the creation date (right click the file, properties, details) and upload information data on Youtube(under edit video). Articles and images too. I store it on my Google Drive which leaves also data. I use Open Broadcast Software to screen capture my proof of ownership.

Registration is only required when it comes to protecting ideas and discoveries. Copyright protects original works of authorship, while a patent protects inventions or discoveries. Ideas and discoveries are not protected by the copyright law, although the way in which they are expressed may be. A trademark protects words, phrases, symbols, or designs identifying the source of the goods or services of one party and distinguishing them from those of others.

My Experience

Someone republished my work on his channel as his own, and was quickly removed by Youtube upon i’ve flagged the stolen content. But the thief took revenge and claimed my content as his own. He tried to create evidence by registering my video at as his own. Unfortunately he forgot that the upload date of the original video will always remain older, in this case older than the date he claimed on This shows that everyone can register other copyright protected work as their own on this scam site.

My last advice, do you have an account on this website? Change your passwords on your social media, e-mails etc. quickly!
